Crane Commander — Dual-Woofer Authority with Horn-Loaded AMT Refinement
Built to order · Current build time: 6–8 weeks

A statement-level loudspeaker that blends the warmth of dual paper drivers with the speed and control of a horn-loaded AMT.

A Statement Expression of the Shinjitsu Audio Sound

The Crane Commander sits alongside the Lantern Iluminror as one of Shinjitsu Audio’s most ambitious loudspeakers. While the Hiro lineup defines our core engineering philosophy, the Crane Commander expands it — adding a dual-woofer foundation and a horn-loaded AMT for greater scale, refinement, and dynamic ease.

It maintains the same voicing principles as the Hiro family, simply delivering them with more physical presence, more headroom, and a broader acoustic canvas.

Horn-Loaded AMT — Speed, Control, Directivity

At the top of the Crane is the Beyma TPL-150H, a true air motion transformer (AMT) mounted in a controlled-directivity horn enclosure. This design provides:

  • high bandwidth with extremely low distortion
  • excellent transient behavior
  • directivity control that matches the dual-woofer system
  • a stable, open presentation at any listening level

The TPL-150H integrates naturally within the Shinjitsu Audio design language — delivering refinement without losing the immediacy and presence our loudspeakers are known for.

Dual Alpair 12P Paper Drivers — 1.5-Way Authority

The Crane uses two Mark Audio Alpair 12P paper-cone drivers in a 1.5-way configuration. This design increases:

  • sensitivity
  • bass extension
  • dynamic punch and weight
  • headroom in the vocal and lower-mid regions

Paper drivers excel at natural tone and realistic body. With two operating together, the Crane projects a soundstage with mass, scale, and effortless ease while maintaining the organic character that paper drivers are celebrated for.

Crossover Integration

A Shinjitsu-tuned 2.5-way passive network blends the dual woofers with the horn-loaded AMT. The design prioritizes:

  • phase-coherent transitions
  • even power response
  • a seamless blend between paper-cone warmth and AMT openness
  • stable imaging and consistent tonal balance

High-quality components — film capacitors, air-core inductors, and robust wiring — ensure long-term reliability and sonic consistency.

AMT Voicing Options

Crane Commander allows subtle voicing adjustment to tailor how the horn-loaded AMT integrates with the dual paper woofers Via the top mounted resistor. This adjustment does not change crossover topology or system safety — it simply shifts the perceived balance.

Bold
More forward and vivid. The AMT steps slightly closer to the listener, increasing presence, articulation, and immediacy. Often preferred in larger rooms or at lower listening levels.

Neutral
Evenly balanced. The AMT and paper drivers speak as one, with natural tone, stable imaging, and realistic scale. This is the reference setting and the recommended starting point.

Relaxed
Smoother and more laid-back. The AMT settles back slightly, emphasizing warmth, flow, and long-term listening comfort. Often preferred in brighter rooms or with aggressive recordings.

All voicing options are intentional and safe — choose by ear.

Baltic Birch Cabinet — Strength and Stability

Crane cabinets are built from ¾″ Baltic Birch plywood, selected for stiffness, resonance control, and structural longevity.

Front Baffle

The face is ¼″ solid exotic hardwood, cut from a real slab and hand finished. Seasonal species include walnut, oak, Brazilian hickory, black limba, and wenge. See wood options page for details.

Rabbet-Joint Joinery

  • increased glue surface for superior strength
  • mechanical interlock for cabinet rigidity
  • self-aligning geometry for precise assembly
  • visible end-grain — an honest expression of real craftsmanship

Digitally Engineered Composite Components

Precision 3D-printed polymer components — internal mounts, structural inserts, and AMT supports — are modeled in CAD and printed to exact tolerances. These elements improve stability, reduce vibration, and maintain perfect alignment.

Performance

The Crane delivers a large-scale, highly dynamic presentation with the tonal warmth of paper drivers and the refinement of a horn-loaded AMT. Expect deep bass, natural vocals, fast transients, and an effortless sense of space.

It is a full, confident expression of the Shinjitsu Audio sound — balanced, engaging, and built for long-term listening satisfaction.
