Large Format Series

SA12 – 96 dB Large Format Horn Speaker

The SA12 is a high-efficiency, horn-loaded loudspeaker designed for listeners who want the largest possible soundstage, concert-level dynamics, and lifelike scale — yet still preserves nuance and intimacy at low volumes. With its built-in L-Pad, high-pass and low-pass network, and fully damped plinth structure, it delivers the immediacy, presence, and effortless dynamics that define horn sound — without the complexity of active crossovers.

Each unit is precision-built, measured, and level-matched in-house. Even low-powered amplifiers of a single watt can produce room-filling sound, with the clarity, scale, and speed that only a horn can provide.

How It Sounds

  • Effortless scale — life-size imaging and headroom even with low-power amps.
  • Fast, open midrange — transient precision and vocal clarity at all listening levels.
  • Natural highs — smooth, extended top end with adjustable L-Pad.
  • Bi-amp available at no extra cost.

Highlights

  • System Type: Horn-loaded midrange/tweeter module (800 Hz – 20 kHz)
  • Compression Driver: 2-inch Beyma CP755ND — polymer-suspended titanium diaphragm
  • Horn: Beyma TD460N 12" constant-directivity polymer horn
  • Compatibility: Works beautifully with low and high-powered amps
  • Cabinet: ¾″ Baltic Birch — rabbet-joined, internally braced
  • Finish: Hand-rubbed oil / satin with visible end-grain by design
  • Supports & Backplates: In-house honeycombed composite for damping

Digitally-Engineered Composite Components

Every Shinjitsu Audio product — from the Little Hiro to our largest horn systems — incorporates precision 3D-printed polymer composite parts. These aren’t shortcuts; they are modern engineering tools selected because they offer dimensional accuracy, mechanical stability, and low resonance that wood or metal hardware cannot match.

Each cradle, mount, and structural insert is digitally modeled in CAD and printed to exact tolerances. This eliminates flex, prevents long-term hardware fatigue, and ensures consistent driver alignment and performance across every unit.

This modern approach mirrors the methods used by KEF, Wilson Benesch, and Vivid Audio — leveraging composites to achieve quieter structures, better damping, and a cleaner acoustic platform.

Cabinet Construction & Joinery

All Shinjitsu Audio speaker cabinets are built from ¾-inch Baltic Birch plywood — never MDF.

Baltic Birch offers superior damping and strength through its multi-layer cross-grain construction (13 plies per 18 mm panel). It resists flex and ringing for cleaner sound and long-term stability.

Rabbet Joint Strength

  • Increased Glue Surface Area — long-grain bonding for superior adhesion.
  • Mechanical Interlock — resists racking forces and keeps panels square.
  • Easy Alignment — self-registering for tight, repeatable fits.
  • Applications — used in fine cabinetry and precision enclosures.

End grain is visible by design — an honest by-product of real joinery.

Why We Don’t Use Veneer

Veneer averages only 0.5 mm thick — easily damaged and impossible to repair once cut through. Baltic Birch’s outer layer is ~1.5 mm thick, making it far more durable and refinishable.

We prioritize strength, damping, and serv
